Responsibilities: Beech Acres Parenting Center (“The Beech” as we like to call it!) is seeking a_ Family Specialist _to join our award-winning agency in our Kinship Connections program. This role is responsible for coaching parents to parenting capability and to enhance protective and safety factors in families served. This role plays a key part in ensuring children and families have access to relevant services by providing service navigation, individual customized support based on need, and group facilitation services through agency and evidence-based models.This role will provide support to kin caregivers across several counties (Hamilton, Warren, Clinton) and must have flexibility in supporting across the region.* Responsibilities include: *Promotes family engagement utilizing creative outreach and relationship building techniques. Triages needs of aregivers, makes connections and referrals as appropriate. Performs assessments with outcome tools to understand needs and support identifying and achieving goals. Provides advocacy and assistance to caregivers in negotiating barriers that get in the way of them supporting the children in their home (financial, housing, food security, transportation, schools, healthcare etc.) Assists in aligning services to meet the overall needs of clients and families. Shares information about resources and assists with linkage to resources, as needed. Supports caregivers with connecting children with significant trauma response to behavioral health services early when identified as a need. Provides support to the caregivers related to potentially tenuous and stressful relationships with the child's biological parents, who may also be their own children. Performs all work with trauma informed care focus. Provides coaching on parenting skills based on promising practices and evidence-based models. Engages families and system partners on a grassroots level to recruit families for group sessions and individualized services. Facilitates learning and support groups for caregivers and children and maintains fidelity to the designated model, e.g. PPP, NSP, etc. Coordinates and monitors services within county designation to ensure quality and timely service delivery. Ensures monthly deadlines are achieved in accordance with program standards. Partners with Program Manager to ensure appropriate staff coverage for group sessions. Prepares materials and completes space planning for group session at locations within the community. Manages and completes documentation according to agency, contractual agreements, and COA standards. Ensures accuracy of documentation required by funders as it relates to various program areas. Monitors applicable databases and enter data for programs as required, including sign in sheets and attendance. This role is office and community based and requires frequent travel throughout the community to support kinship recruitment, events, and outreach. Works outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, is also required.
Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field preferred. A minimum of 3+ years related work experience supporting services for kids and families. Knowledge of coaching/mentoring services, as well as resources for families to support housing, food stability and other resource needs. Valid driver’s license; must maintain agency required auto insurance of $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, and $100,000 property damage. Strong facilitation skills with the ability to provide effective training to diverse audiences. Must be an advocate for children and families who are in the care of kin/family members. Shared/lived experience as a kin caregiver is a plus. A background check and Bureau of Motor Vehicles check is required for this position. A passion for our mission!
