Job Description Join the Clean Energy Revolution
Become an Apprentice Substation Cable Splicer at (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll work throughout the SCE service territory Installing, replacing, and maintaining high voltage underground cable. This position is a 3-year apprenticeship where you will learn how to rig, terminate, splice, and test power cable. This person will work in a crew environment alongside our Journeyman Cable splicers. As an Apprentice Substation Cable Splicer, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone. A day in the lifeGet ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!
Learn the rigging principles to pull underground cable.
Works with various tools and equipment such as Hydraulic pumps, presses, and testing units.
Operates heavy equipment such as boom trucks, forklifts, manlifts, power dolly, and carry decks.
Uses elementary principles of electricity, knowledge of safety rules and common tools used in performing manual work relating to the installation, replacement, inspection, servicing, overhauling, and repair of all types of power cable and major equipment.
Apply the knowledge of the technical aspects, work rules, methods, practices, procedures, and techniques to develop skills and knowledge for splicing, terminating and testing all types of cable and major electrical equipment.
Works from written or oral instructions, specifications, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Climbs and works from stepped poles, racks, towers, and performs physical heavy work.
Uses hand or power tools and operate construction equipment.
Qualifications The Essentials
One or more years of Electrical Construction or Electronics troubleshooting experience or Electrical Training Certification or Diploma through an Electrical Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent Electrical/Electronics education.
Valid California Driver License.
Formal Electrical Training Certification or Diploma through an Electrical/Electronics Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent Electrical/Electronics education.
Ability to work in the elements (Heat, Wind, Cold, and Rain) and perform physical heavy work.
Ability to Travel throughout the entire SCE service territory.
Ability to interpret as built drawings and cable maps, read blueprints and wiring diagrams.

This position’s work mode is On-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

Position will require up to 75% traveling and being out in the field throughout the entire SCE service territory.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted positionPrior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Please access our Information Guides to reference test(s): (Tests #8203, 2902, 4025, and 5108). Candidates who have previously passed these assessments, in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
