Position Overview and Expectations
The Laboratory Associate will be responsible for assisting scientists and research managers on projects and documentation, inventory management, and general laboratory upkeep.
Essential Job Functions
Assist laboratory personnel in special projects, as directed
Manage laboratory consumables and chemical inventory
Participate in the general upkeep of the laboratory (5S)
Review and sign off on laboratory formulae in the New Product Launch workflow
Perform stability testing for color fading and product stability per GLP guidelines
Utilize appropriate techniques and software as needed to match and document color
Operate laboratory mixing equipment
Operate laboratory analytical equipment
Review and sign off on laboratory formula’s during New Product Launches
Audit laboratory notebooks as needed
Work safely with hazardous chemicals and waste
Complete special assignments and prepare reports/project summaries, as required
Create, maintain, and organize color standards for production and QC
Create, maintain and organize electronic documentation
Assist production in matching color formulations
0-3 years’ experience in a laboratory environment or comparable setting
Good mathematical skills – unit conversion, ratio, percentage
Good oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills
Good analytical skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently as well as on a team
Proficiency with MS Office – especially Excel
High School or GED with 2 years’ experience in pigmentation or 2 years of laboratory experience; or
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, etc.) desirable but not mandatory
Physical Demands and Environment
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical Demands: Employee is required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Ability to wear/use personal protective equipment as required such as lab coat, goggles, gloves, masks, etc.
Work Environment: This position requires one to work both in an office environment and a lab. Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment. On occasion, may be exposed to light fumes or airborne particles.
