The , Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all criminal matters in the . It is an independent agency of the executive branch of state government, established under the Constitution of the . The Division of Criminal Justice is composed of the Office of the Chief State's Attorney, located in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and the Offices of the State's Attorneys for each of the thirteen Judicial Districts in the . We are recruiting for a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, DCJ Investigator in the New Haven Judicial District. This position is located at GA #23 in New Haven, CT, with core hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel within the State in the course of their daily work. NOTE: The incumbent will be required to complete a background check. Selection Plan Candidates invited to interview may be required to submit additional documentation which supports their qualification(s) for these position, such as a resume or a writing sample. All State employees shall follow the guidelines as listed in Executive Orders 13F (3a) and 13G (3a). PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In the Division of Criminal Justice, this class is accountable for assisting in the preparation of criminal and motor vehicle cases for prosecution and trial and for investigating or assisting in the post-arrest investigation of crimes within the jurisdiction of the assigned prosecutorial office. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Screens, reviews, prioritizes and prepares incoming motor vehicle and criminal files; ensures that all case file information necessary for prosecution is complete; interviews and takes statements from police, witnesses, and victims; obtains relevant documentation (e.g. police reports, hospital records, toxicology laboratory reports, etc.); locates individuals; prepares case chronology for prosecutor; prepares necessary reports and may make initial recommendation regarding pretrial diversion; briefs victims and witnesses prior to court appearances; responds to inquiries from victims regarding case progress; serves as liaison with police departments and other State and Federal agencies; performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Considerable knowledge of relevant State laws and regulations; considerable knowledge of investigative methods and techniques; knowledge of rules of evidence and legal processes; considerable interviewing skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to gather and interpret data. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGENERAL EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of experience as a law enforcement officer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSSUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related fields may be substituted for the General Experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will possess working knowledge of standard office procedures and computer software programs (Microsoft Office) and the ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks and operations. Candidates with the following experience are preferred: Substantial familiarity with the greater New Haven community
Extensive experience working in or with a high volume urban police
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy location
Experience investigating serious crimes
Possession of sufficient computer skills to work with law enforcement agencies in securing and handling digital evidence in the form of photographs, video, 911 calls, body and dashboard cameras.
